Applying the PERMA Framework to Young Volunteers in Aotearoa New Zealand

Abstract In this paper, we apply the PERMA framework (Seligman, Flourish, Simon & Schuster, 2011) to experiences of 63 young people who have volunteered in Ōtautahi Christchurch, Aotearoa New Zealand, at some point across decade 2010–20. We seek (1) explore suitability volunteers’ well-being, and (2) map out relationships between domains when is applied. Our findings suggest that constitutes a suitable for considering well-being volunteers but also underscore importance context-specific conceptualisations well-being. analysis reveals strong domains, particularly emphasising centrality meaning volunteers. discuss theoretical practical implications these advancing our understanding how best support
